Anne Jones passed away

Folk Music Friends -

It is with a sad heart that we must share with you that Anne Jones passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 11, 2011, after a six month battle with the recurrence of cancer. Her husband Tom, her daughter Cathy, and two of her three sons were with her throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday, with her third son arriving on Tuesday. She died peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side, and with one of her favorite CDs playing. Anne had visits from many friends in the several days before she passed, and her family played CD's and sang, thus filling Anne's heart and head with familiar songs and friendly voices.

Anne Jones was known primarily for her role as guitar teacher at the Jones Family Music School, although she also played autoharp and Appalachian dulcimer. She had a beautiful and powerful singing voice, along with an ability to remember words to an amazing array of songs. This, along with her powerful, steady guitar playing style, made her a natural for leading jam sessions, which she did often in her 40 plus years of involvement in the folk music scene of the Western suburbs of Chicago. Anne performed as part of the Jones Family String Band with her husband Tom and daughter Cathy. She was also an active member of the Plank Road All Volunteer String band and was an active promoter of the many folk music societies in the Western suburbs.

Anne's second favorite activity was quilting and sewing. While Anne took great joy in creating items as gifts for friends and family, she has left her stamp throughout the Jones home as well. After Anne's official retirement from teaching guitar, she enjoyed her weekly "sewing group" get-togethers, where she would work with friends on sewing quilts, knitting and crocheting a variety of items and other sewing projects. All of Anne's family and many friends have commented on how much they treasure their gifts of items made by Anne. (Please see the pictures on the Photos tab for more samples of Anne's handiwork.)

Anne is survived by her husband, Tom, her four children and six grandchildren and a grand-daughter-in-law.

From Plank Road Folk Music Society:  This is obviously a very difficult time for the Jones Family, as well as for the wider folk music community who have lost a dear friend and kindred music soul. Please keep Anne's family in your thoughts and prayers. As you remember Anne and the Jones Family, you may want to revisit this article at:

The last line of the article is quite appropriate for this time - "When asked if there was anything the Jones Family wanted to say to the folk music community through this article, they said: "Tell `em we love `em." I'm sure the feeling is mutual."
